Dr. Friedman has been a board-certified surgeon for 27 years. He brings to Silver City a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his area of specialty.
Dr. Friedman grew up in Larchmont, New York, just 25 miles north of New York City. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Tufts University in Boston and completed from his surgical residency at Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia in 1988. Through a stipend program with the U.S. Public Health Service, he worked for the service's hospital in Boston, MA and then went on to serve at the Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM, where he first fell in love with our beautiful state.
His surgical journey brought him to places like Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, where he served as Chief of Surgery, earning him a Commendation Medal from the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Friedman practiced general surgery in the State of Massachusetts for many years, as well as within New Mexico hospital systems in Las Cruces and Albuquerque. Dr. Friedman completed short stints in Arizona and the State of Washington before returning to New Mexico. Dr. Friedman also supported the stabilization efforts of Desert Storm in Kirkuk, Iraq as the Hospital Head and General and Trauma Surgeon at the US Dept. of State Diplomatic Support Hospitals in Baghdad, Tikrit and Basra.
Dr. Friedman has enjoyed teaching and holds many faculty appointments across our country. Dr. Friedman spent the last year in our community as a locum tenens surgeon where he has been highly regarded by our caregivers and patients.

Dr. Friedman enjoys travel, art, historical novels and looks forward to discovering the Gila wilderness.
