The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) Program received this year's largest funded GRMC Foundation Wish List Program investment - exam equipment for use in the Emergency Department along with program development funds. GRMC has three SANE Registered Nurses (RN) who have completed a 67-hour training. They help with the interview of patients, comprehensive examination, photo and data/evidence collection and support services to sexual assault survivors. Two more RN's are scheduled to be trained.

SANE Program

Providing a High Standard of Compassionate Care
for Sexual Assault Survivors
Gila Regional's Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program is driven by registered nurses who are specially trained to provide around the clock, first-response care to sexual assault survivors. Our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are experts at addressing the psychological and physical trauma associated with sexual assault, focusing strongly on patient dignity and compassionate support.
SANE Nurses Give Back to the Community
The registered nurses affiliated with Gila Regional's Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program are passionate about giving back to the community. They are working as a partner to form a Sexual Assault Response Team and Multi-Disciplinary Task Force in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, the Silver City District Attorney's Office, the Court System, and community victim advocacy agencies including, but not limited to, the Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services; the Domestic Violence  -- Sexual Assault Task Force, NM Legal Aid and Border Area Mental Health.
The Latest in Forensics Technology
Gila Regional Emergency Department has state-of-the-art equipment to conduct safe and comprehensive physical examinations. Better technology results in a fast, thorough examination for the patient and precise forensic determination.
