Gila Regional Cancer Center Caregiver Profile – Kristy Arambula, RN

Kristy Arambula is a Registered Nurse at Gila Regional Medical Center's (GRMC) Cancer Center. She has been in nursing for 2 years, her first year and a half as a floor nurse and the past 7 months in Oncology.

"I love oncology," said Ms. Arambula. "Now that I am here, I cannot picture myself doing anything else."

Born and raised in Silver City, Kristy chose to stay with GRMC for her patients and her family. She is engaged to a Silver City Police officer and has a little girl that is two years old.

"Silver City is home to me, and spending time with my family and outdoors are the joys of my life outside of work," added Kristy. "We have to remain positive with the transition to the University of New Mexico (UNM) Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our patients are our number one focus and they will see some familiar faces if they remain with GRMC and UNM."

The contract with UNM was signed on Monday, July 17, 2017 and three oncologists are in the process of being credentialed to cover patient care once a week at the Cancer Center. This is only temporary until a full time oncologist can be put in place to cover services Monday through Friday.

"This is our Cancer Center and we are glad to have local caregivers like Kristy on board," said Taffy Arias, Chief Executive Officer at GRMC. "No one will care for our community with the same compassion as someone like Kristy who is from our community. She brings a passion to our cancer patients that cannot be replicated by going out of town for services."
