Information Technology

Every day the men and women of Gila Regional's Information Technology (IT) Department strive to provide their caregivers with the tools necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Technology That Reduces Errors
Research has shown that certain kinds of information technology (IT) - such as computerized physician order entry (CPOE), computerized decision support systems, and medication administration utilizing bar code identification ‑- can limit errors. IT can also be a tool for improving efficiency. While hospitals have been pioneers in harnessing IT to improve patient care, quality and efficiency, it is not without challenges. Our IT team is constantly working to identify and integrate technological solutions into the routine care processes at Gila Regional Medical Center.

WI-FI
Tools are also provided to improve the patients' and their families' experience. WI-FI internet access as well as access to extensive online libraries is provided by in-house and county health advocates.

HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Recognition
Hospitals are gearing towards a paperless environment; Gila Regional is well on its way to meeting that goal. In 2009 the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics division recognized GRMC as the 50th of 5,170 hospitals in North America to achieve "Stage 6" designation of its electronic medical record system and the first in New Mexico to do so. A Stage 6 hospital has an almost paperless medical record environment.
