Grant County Health Plan- Payment Assistance

The Grant County Health Plan is a state- and county-funded program which pays on hospital and some physician claims. The applicant must apply in the county he or she resides in. There are two qualifications that must be met before eligibility can be determined. The patient must have been a county resident for at least 90 days prior to the date of service and must meet the income guidelines. Aliens also qualify for indigent as long as they meet these criteria. Catron County does not have a program at this time. The information provided here covers Grant, Hidalgo and Luna counties.

What are the Income Guidelines to qualify for the Health Plan?
The income limit is based on the previous year’s income. Income limits are subject to change annually. Please call the Grant County Health Plan Coordinator at 538-4180 for current income limits.

What hospital services does the Health Plan cover?
The Program covers only hospital services provided within the four walls of the main hospital building and ambulance services. Any bill or balance will be considered. Only hospital services provided in Grant County will be considered for the Health Plan.

What does the Health Plan not cover?
The Program may not always cover doctors’, radiologists’, anesthesiologists’, or surgeons’ fees. Outpatient physical therapy and occupational therapy, home care services and medical supplies also are not covered, because they are not provided in the hospital.

Will the Health Plan cover my bill if I have insurance?
The Program may cover any resulting balance.

Is there a time limit to apply?
Yes. The patient has 30 days from date of discharge or date of service and after insurance has paid to obtain the application, collect the required information and return paperwork to Gila Regional’s Business Office.

What information will I be required to furnish?

  • A completed application, which includes a verified statement form that must be notarized and two residential forms that must be completed by two people unrelated to the patient. The Gila Regional Business Office has Notary Publics.
  • Proof of all income in the household – Income is based on the previous year.
  • Proof of all debts – Either a rent receipt, house payment receipt, deed or property tax statement or a notarized letter if living rent-free, along with two utility bills.
