R.N. MATERNAL CHILD PER DIEM

Job summary: The Maternal Child nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, evaluating, implementing, and delivering patient care in a safe, effective manner to patients in Labor and Delivery and Newborn Nursery on his/her duty shift. The RN provides direct patient care, assists with care for patients of others (as needed), makes patient care assignments to other staff members on duty, and is responsible for the care delivered by the nursing staff under his/her direction during the shift for which (s)he is on duty. The RN is responsible to assure provision of safe, prudent economical patient care according to his/her thorough knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures, GRMC standards of Nursing Practice and his/her own skills and knowledge as an RN. (S)He will perform all duties in compliance with approved standards of care and practice as defined by GRMC, the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act, and the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO). The Maternal-Child RN is responsible to and evaluated by the Director of Maternal-Child with peer input. (S)he must be able to function as primary nurse in Labor and Delivery and Newborn Nursery.
Qualifications required: · Registered Nurse with current New Mexico license required
· Minimum of (1) one year experience preferred.
· AWOHHN Fetal Monitoring certification required. (May be obtained 6 months from initial hire.)
· Newborn Resuscitation (NRP- may be obtained during the 90 day initial employment period.) Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support card required.
· Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills in the nursing process necessary for those patients requiring the expertise of a professional registered nurse.
· Must pass Age-specific/Cultural competency video with a grade of 90% or greater. (Required within initial 90-day employment period.)
· Must know Restraint and Pain Management Policies and updates as it applies to this position. (Required within initial 90-day employment period.)
Other comments: · Must be able to work twelve-hour shifts. Must be able to work every other weekend. Must be willing and able to work any shift, as needed and be flexible with scheduling requirements.
