Patient-Centered Care

April 23 – April 29 is Volunteer Week, a time when we at Gila Regional acknowledge our Volunteers for all that they do. Volunteering is the giving of the one gift we all seem to have in limited commodity, our time and attention. There is no greater gift. We see our Auxiliary members day in and day out helping around the hospital, getting patients where they need to go and providing lunches for our cancer treatment patients, just name a few ways they help GRMC. It is easy to forget that the thousands of hours they put in every year are not for a paycheck, they are here to serve out of the kindness of their heart.

Another group that volunteers at GRMC is the Gila Regional Collaborative Council. This is a dedicated group of citizens that wants to help GRMC by being a focus group to express concerns or accolades that they hear from the public. This helps the hospital to improve and better serve our patients. Perfection is a never ending pursuit that is not achievable as long as you acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. Bill Gate once said, "Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning." While we strive to give the best care possible, it is the lessons of dissatisfaction that allow us to become better at what we do. We value the surveys we get back from our patients and are always working to improve. The Collaborative Council is a voice that we listen to openly and candidly. They are the voice of the community and we truly appreciate the time that they give.

Volunteers, they give us their most precious gift, their time, and we thank and appreciate them for all they do. Not just today or this week because it is Volunteer Week, but every day. So help a stranger, give of yourself, and be a volunteer. It is the ultimate service we can do as humans is to help and care for others.
