Red Hot Children's Fiesta

The Red Hot Children's Fiesta is the largest child development resource fair in southwest New Mexico! Wild things will be roaming the Fiesta on Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Old James Stadium on the WNMU Campus, located at N. Kentucky Ave between 12th St. and College Ave.

Dig for dinosaurs and search for fossils with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History! Get up close and personal with live animals from ZOO TO YOU part of the Albuquerque Bio Park!
The Fiesta is FREE and every child that participates gets a prize. This year will be jam packed with fun for the whole family, but need to be careful because WNMU has a busy day with lots activities including the first home football game of the season (shhh-we have tickets for families) and mariachis playing at the Fine Arts Center Theater. Because of the heavy traffic on Kentucky Street, that entrance to the stadiumn will be CLOSED. Please avoid parking in the lots located on either side of the Fine Arts Center Theater.

ENTER THE FIESTA FROM THE WNMU STUDENT MEMORIAL PARKING LOT or NORTH FLORIDA STREET.

We suggest parking in the following WNMU lots:
Student Memorial Building Parking Lot (off of College Ave.)
Harlan Hall Parking Lot (from 12th St. turn left on Alabama St.)
Phelps Dodge Building Parking Lot (on 12th St.)
School of Nursing Parking Lot (on E St.)

A little about the Fiesta: Grant County agencies, organizations and groups offering services to families join together to sponsor fun activities for children--face painting, puppet-making, obstacle courses, dinosaur digs, bubble blowing, and craft making--while handing out useful information to the parents/guardians of the children.

LifeQuest Early Intervention initiated the event over a decade ago and the Children's Life Cycle took over the Fiesta in 2005, which continues to be incredibly successful with more 2,300 residents participating last year in the day-long fiesta at Penny Park. Now, The Family Resiliency Community Action Team (FICCS) of the Health Council is overseeing the fiesta. FICCS is focusing its energy on bringing families together to play (as it builds bonds in families and keeps them unified).

The Health Council feels the Red Hot Children's Fiesta is an important event for children to get out and play and for parents to learn about the services available in our county.
