Radiology Equipment
Our most advanced equipment includes:

  • CT (Computerized Tomography) – GRMC's 160-slice CT scanner is capable of cross-scanning all parts of the body. It is a highly-developed machine that exposes you to less radiation and is faster than anything else offered in New Mexico. The resulting quality and detailed images are essential for accurate diagnosis. We have board-certified radiologists on-site to monitor and read your exams. All of Gila Regional's technologists are nationally and state certified. We offer CT virtual colonography as well as heart imaging - CT Calcium Scoring and CT Coronary Angiogram
  • Digital Mammography – It uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce images that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor, and transmitted and stored just like computer files. The technology allows Radiologists to view Mammography images in a matter of seconds. The Radiologist can adjust brightness, change contrast, and zoom in on specific areas to help detect small calcifications, masses, and other changes that may be signs of early cancer. Being able to manipulate images is one of the main benefits of digital technology.
    • Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) with Mammography - This unit is an aid for the Radiologist as a second pair of "eyes". If the software detects any breast abnormalities, it marks them for further review.
    • Mammography offers galactogram.
  • Digital Radiology - The newest computerized radiology CR (Computer Radiography) and DR (Digital Radiography) offers significant diagnostic quality advantages over conventional film methods. This ensures that the images appear ready for the Radiologist for a faster turnaround time. With our new and improved PACS system, we can provide their images on discs to take to their doctors to provide a continuum of care.
  • General Radiology and Fluoroscopy – For routine x-rays the Radiology unit is staffed by licensed technologists. Fluoroscopy is a study of body structures seen in real-time functions. These procedures are performed by a Radiologist and are used to examine many body systems, including digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. We work closely with Speech Pathology in this area for modified swallow studies.
  • The imaging Nurse is available to assist the Radiologist in all invasive procedures in imaging. The imaging nurse is licensed and has critical care experience. Our procedures include CT biopsies of the liver, lung, chest and bone. Ultrasound biopsies include breast, thyroid, paracentesis and thoracentesis.
  • Ultrasound – Uses sound waves instead of radiation. Ultrasound testing identifies and records the body's organs and any abnormalities. The technologists are friendly and highly experienced caregivers and provide a wide range of ultrasonography. All procedures are explained to the patient and the gel used is warmed making the experience very comfortable.
  • Echo – Uses sound waves instead of radiation. This provides imaging of the structures within the heart. Some tests that are done are echo, stress echo, and TEE studies. The Echo technologists are experiences and dedicated, they work directly with the local Cardiologist.
  • Nuclear Medicine – allows the Radiologist/Cardiologist to quickly and safely determine problems within bones, kidneys, thyroid, lungs, gallbladder, liver or heart. The functions of these body parts can be checked and care can be provided with medication (isotope) that has virtually no side effects or possible allergic reaction. Dual-head cameras are used during this procedure, cutting the exam time in half.
  • Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) -- The PACS system digitally stores, transmits and displays radiology images. Networking allows for referring physicians to have immediate access to patient information resulting in increased efficiency.
