The Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) Pharmacy promotes medication safety
by utilizing the latest technology in medication dispensing including
bar code scanning and the Pyxis 4000 Medstations. Pharmacy maintains an
active clinical program with our pharmacy director, 4 full-time pharmacists,
3 PRN pharmacist, 4 full-time pharmacy technicians, and 1 part-time pharmacy
technician. The pharmacy also works collaboratively with Cardinal Health
who provides tele-pharmacy services after hours.
The GRMC pharmacy is very patient and safety focused. The team ensures that medication orders are screened for appropriate dosing, interactions, and contraindications. Furthermore, the pharmacy maintains an active antimicrobial stewardship program assuring patients receive the most appropriate antibiotic therapy based on diagnosis and lab results. Our pharmacists are active members of the multi-disciplinary care rounds team helping to provide medication counseling to patients and various pharmaceutical knowledge needed on the patient care units. Additionally, the pharmacy compounds both hazardous and non-hazardous IVs for patients and undergo specialized training in IV sterile compounding with annual competencies to ensure both patient and staff safety.
